According to IDC's estimates, next year 1.7 billion "smart connected devices" should be supplied, of which around billion will go to emerging markets. The smart connected devices is IDC name for "smart" mobile phones, tablets and PCs, and most deliveries are expected in China, India, Brazil and Russia. Just these four markets are expected to supply about 662 million units, worth more than 206 billion dollars.

In developed markets about 650 million units are expected to be supplied, of which more than 400 million will be delivered in the U.S., UK and Japan, with a total value of 204 billion dollars. For growth most responsible will be the deliveries of tablets and "smart" mobile phones, and in total it is expected that about 1.4 billion of these devices will be supplied worth about $500 billion. Deliveries of classic PCs should reach a figure of about 300 million pieces, whose value is estimated at $200 billion.

Opposite to this increase, average price of devices is falling. Thus, the average price of tablets dropped 19% last year compared to a year earlier, with an average of $525 in 2011 to $426 in 2012. In the same period, the average cost of "smart" mobile phones fell by 8.2%, from 443 to 407 U.S. dollars.
