CyanogenMod is popular with users who are not satisfied with the operating system that came with their device, or with the support from manufacturers for their device. The software is based on the open source Android, which Google issues with every new release of the operating system.
CyanogenMod has started as an ehnusiasts project, but in the meantime, has attracted considerable amount from investors, and has recently introduced the first mobile phone, the Oppo N1, which officially uses their modification of Android as the operating system.
