Assassin’s Creed Unity Patch 4 is broken all on its own.

Reading time is around minutes.

Just when you thought it could not get any worse for Ubisoft it turns out that the patch they designed to fix all of the broken stuff is also sort of broken. According to a post on the Assassin’s Creed Unity site some Xbox owners were seeing a 40GB download when they were trying to grab patch 4 for the game. It seems that the patch was attempting to re-download the entire game and simply overwrite all of the game files instead of just trying to replace the messed up ones.

“We have received and confirmed reports that some Xbox One players who have previously applied Patch 3 are seeing a 40GB download instead of the expected 6.7GB download. Unfortunately, an issue with the patch downloading process is replacing the entire game instead of just the parts affected by the patch.” Although this is sort of comical when you think about it, the fact remains that it is not what Ubisoft needed right now. It is just not the right way to fix a game.

In the end they stated that this was “obviously not the expected behavior” and had called in Microsoft to assist with fixing the problem. As things stand right now the only “fix” is to either let the game re-download and install or to uninstall the game, reinstall it and then patch it… of course this only works if you bought the disk. Looks like Ubisoft just cannot catch a break.
