MediaTek to invest over $1 billion in chip development

Taiwanese company MediaTek plans to invest more than $1 billion in development of more than 20 new chips in 2014 that will be built into smart phones, tablets, TVs, DVD players, and wireless devices. MediaTek usually spends about 20% of the annual amount collected from the sale on the research and development department.

In comparison with this year's projected revenue of $4.42 billion, capital investments in research and development in the 2013 will reach the amount of $884 million. Next year for the purposes of research and development they will invest more than $1 billion ($1.02 billion). According to revenue forecasts, next year the income should increase to between 5.09 and 5.53 billion dollars.

As for new products in 2014, they plan to launch at least six new processors, which includes two 8-core CPUs, two quad, one dual-core and single-core model. Also there are plans for a few high-end, midrange and entry-level processors for tablet devices.
