The Windows Store has over 20,000 applications as announced by the Win App Update on their twitter feed. Of this number, according to the unofficial data, 87% are free of charge. Speaking at a London Game Conference, a Microsoft marketing manager Andrew Webber revealed another fact -  until recently the Windows Store had fewer than 1,500 games (at the time of writing the text 1,615), in the category of racing there are only 13 of them.

Microsoft sees this situation as an opportunity for developers. While the platform is still young, it is much easier to build momentum and make money, Webber said. Rapid growth in the number of applications for the Windows Store is expected and in the next year there will be around ten million computers and tablets with access to this store's applications in the world [according to Microsoft predictions - Ed]. By comparison, Google's Play and Apple's App Store have over 700,000 applications available for smartphones. Currently, a total of 275,000 applications are optimized for the iPad.

One thing to have in mind is that some apps in Windows Store are restricted for specific regions. So for example in the UK there are around 11,000 apps while in Canada you have access to over 14,000. The second largest store is the one in US with around 13,000 apps. In the last couple of days there have been around 450 new apps daily.
