Amazon finished 2012 with low earnings

Amazon1

Amazon has released the results for the last quarter of 2012. The company has achieved 22.27 billion in revenue which is 22% better compared to the same period a year earlier. However, Amazon also reported relatively weak earnings, especially if we consider their high income.

During the quarter, the company earned just $97 million, and this result is 45% lower compared to the same period a year earlier. Selling e-books for Kindle is growing (70% compared to a year earlier), but Amazon marks weaker sales of physical (paper) books. In the last quarter, sales of paper books had a growth of only 5%, which is Amazon's historically lowest result for the holiday season.

Products from the e-reader and Kindle tablet line remain the best-selling products on Amazon. The company's multimedia offerings and other digital content in the period of one year have increased from 19 million to 23 million copies of movies, music, magazines, e-books and applications.
