This is not the first time that Anonymous has gone after pedophiles in October of 2011 they went after sites operating inside the Tor network in Operation Darknet. They have announced this new Op in the usual manner through a YouTube video which announces the reasons and goals behind the operation. Just this morning Anonymous has called out their cry of Tango Down as they have removed several sites from the list. The group has also posted a large amount of data about members of these sites and posted them on pastebin.
In the past Anonymous has done this type of Op not only to remove these types of sites from the Internet but also to show a complete lack of attention that most governments show this topic. Although many claim they are going to do something about child pornography there is often very little that is actually done to deal with this. Instead massive amounts of money are spent to find and arrest people downloading illegal movies and music or in attempting to censor the internet to prevent piracy.
The funniest part (in a darkly funny way) is that in many of these attempts to protect corporate IP they use the claim of protecting children. Maybe if our law makers are embarrassed enough they will finally stop upholding corporate interests and start using the law enforcement agencies in the US for more than taking down file sharing sites (and even then possibly illegally) and will really do something to protect the children. Until then, well there is always Anonymous.
