Archos CEO finds out the difference between IP54 an IP57 the hard way

These days we can see more and more smartphones getting different certificates for being waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, etc. Since they are standardized under special labels like IP57 or IP54 it was just a matter of time when someone will mix them up, and that special moment came during the presentation of Archos smartphone by the company's CEO Loic Poirier.

He started the presentation by throwing the smartphone from a certain height and then he happily showed that the same does not have a single scratch. It would all be perfect if he had not decided to show how the device works under water. For this purpose, the aforementioned smartphone was put in a high bowl that was then filled with water, CEO even decided to shuffle it in it to make the test more „real“. But then a shocking moment for everyone happened, apparently the Quechua Phone 5 which is considered to be „mountainproof“ device is not so much water resistant.

Specifically, Poirier mixed features of IP54 and IP57 certification, in which devices with IP54 certification can submit to accidentally pouring water, while those with IP57 certified can spend a specific time under water. Because of the bad publicity the other features of this phone like a 5 inch screen , 1 GB of RAM, 5 MP camera, long lasting battery (3500 mAh) that provides up to 22 hours of talk time, quad core Snapdragon S4 processor (1.2 GHz) , and resistance to rain, dust and wind have fallen into the background. Unsuccessful presentation can be seen in the attached video.
