ARM has introduced a new processor architecture and accompanying GPU, designed for mobile devices from mid-priced range. They presented CPU ARM Cortex-A12, Mali-T622 GPU and video processor Mali-V500.

According to ARM's words, the Cortex-A12 chips should offer performance between A9 and A15 solutions (40 percent greater performance than the Cortex-A9) while maintaining very low power consumption. Cortex-A12 supports ARM's big.LITTLE design philosophy combined with the Cortex-A7 architecture. The processor has support for 40-bit memory addressing, and can work with more than 4 GB of RAM.

GPU Mali-T622 (2-core implementations of T628) is 50 percent more energy efficient compared to the T600 series, and supports OpenCL 1.1 and OpenGL ES 3.0. Finally, the single-core hardware video processor Mali-V500 supports encoding and decoding of 1080p video at 60 frames per second, it takes up less bandwidth on the memory bus (50 percent less with AFBC compression) and supports TrustZone technology for copyright protection. In the 8-core version of the V500 it can also run 4K video at 120 frames per second.

ARM Cortex-A12 chips will be produced for other companies by for TSMC and GlobalFoundries in 28-nanometer manufacturing process for, and the first concrete solutions on the market can be expected later this year or early next year.
