Barnes & Noble ready for Kindle Paperwhite

Amazon's new device, the Kindle Paperwhite will soon be shipping out from their warehouses and one of their biggest rivals Barnes & Noble won’t just sit around and wait to see what will happen. So far B&N has been at the top of the illuminated e-reader market and now Amazon wants their share of it too. The step B&N decided to take is to cut the price of their NOOK SimpleTouch with GlowLight device from $139 to $119, the same price that Amazon's Kindle Paperwhite will be selling. Even though it's pretty obvious that this is a reflex reaction to the Paperwhite launch, people at B&N say it has nothing to do with it.

They say that they planned to cut the price for quite a while, but Amazon's announcements earlier this month about their new Kindle family certainly speed things up. Also this is not the first time that B&N has dropped their prices after a move from Amazon. Back in August they cut the prices of the NOOK Tablet (16 GB) from $249 to $199 the 8GB version from $199 to $179 and the NOOK Color from $169 to $149. This happened after the rumors around Kindle Fire HD started to pop up. This should be just a move to stay in competitive position before they launch their own new line of devices.

Barnes & Noble just announced the new prices today, but Target and Wal-Mart decided to ruin the surprise and released the prices the day before. The funny thing is that both of these companies removed Amazon's e-readers from their supplies. The new prices should help B&N gain some extra sales as the holiday shopping season is approaching and from competition between them and Amazon customers are sure to have a decent benefit, as prices drop, and new devices are pushed out regularly.
