Battlefield Hardline Delayed until Ealry 2015 to Improve The Game from Top to Bottom

Remember all of the jokes about EA putting out games before they were ready? I do and many of them were very funny. Apparently someone at EA might have read them too and while we can picture them having an amused chuckle at first they might have also been a little concerned. Around the time that E3 was happening EA made comments to the effect that they would no longer push games out the door before they were ready. We all looked on with a look of “yeah right” on our faces and waited for the next unfinished game to hit the streets.

The most obvious candidate was Battlefield Hardline. This new first person shooter that puts you in the age old roles of cops and robbers was shown off at E3 and followed up with a fairly long Beta program that many dove right into. What was surprising is that the initial feedback from the game has been mostly positive. There are some issues and bugs, but from everything we have heard it is a fast paced game with a decent world to play in.

Because of this most would have expected EA to push Hardline out the door to get cash in hand. We had even heard EA indicate that they might not have time to use the input from beta testers for the release. Now things have changed and EA is saying they are holding off on launching Hardline for a few months to make sure everything is right. It seems that after looking over the feedback EA felt there might be room for improvement after all.

Karl Magnus Troedsson, VP and GM of Dice said “This feedback also spurred us to start thinking about other possibilities and ways we could push Hardline innovation further and make the game even better. The more we thought about these ideas, the more we knew we had to get them into the game you will all be playing.” The changes that would need to be made were not doable in the time left before the original launch date of October 21st so they decided to move the launch back to early 2015.

We hope that they spend the time well and really do bring a good game to the market. Tell us if you are encouraged by this, or if you think this is just a PR move in our Forum.
