Every fifth iPhone owner previously had an Android device

According to research by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners conducted in the first month of availability of the new iPhone in the US, most of the buyers were existing iPhone owners. However there was a growing number of those who have previously owned an Android device.

Specifically, the survey included 400 owners of iPhone 5S and 5C, of which 20% had previously owned a device with Android, while last year the percentage was 16%. Also, number of those who have previously owned an iPhone has increased to 65% compared to last year's 55%. This time there was less users that bought an iPhone after previously having some of the less represented OS's, and those who possessed an ordinary cell phone.

Among those customers who have changed the device manufacturer, Apple got the largest number of former Samsung owners, followed by owners of LG, BlackBerry, Motorola and HTC. On the other hand, those who bought Samsung previously had devices from LG, HTC, Motorola and Apple.

[Ed - Studies like this are marketing gimicks and are pretty much worthless. What I have noticed is that no seems to be condutcting or reporting on how many Android owners were previsouly iPhone owners. I am willing to bet it is more than 20%, but that would not help Apple with thier investors or the consumer. Instead we end up with cooked studies like this one.]
