Now the leak of information is not that uncommon, but the way that Microsoft caught the pair was. Microsoft actually went through the blogger’s Hotmail account and found the evidence they were looking for. Microsoft felt they had every right to do this, but in the end there was considerable backlash and they have since changed their policy about this.
Kibkalo later apologized for leaking the information in a letter to the judge saying he deeply regretted the action. We guess that Microsoft did not push for a more harsh punishment out of concerns there would be a counter suit for their borderline illegal search of an email account. On top of that, let’s face it by the point the information was leaked there were already multiple copies of Windows 8 (and even RT) floating around the more shady sides of the internet. The Blogger could have gotten a copy there if he really wanted too.
