Free Office with small Windows 8 tablets

Microsoft published some very interesting news - a tiny tablet with Windows 8 based on x86 hardware is supplied with free Office 2013 Home & Student edition.

In the category of small tablets are devices with a diagonal screen from seven to eight inches. So far, only one such tablet was recently launched and it is Acer Iconia W3 model. Although the Office will be free, the computers will be supplied with it depending on the will of the manufacturer. In this package of office tools come Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.

Also, another important news for users of tablet with Windows on ARM - Update of Windows RT 8.1 will bring Outlook to those computers. This move should provide better usability of the tablet with Windows RT in business environments.

[Ed – Microsoft upset quite a few people with their recent misleading commercial that showed a $499 tablet running Office 2013. Sadly adding Office into the mix raised the price of the tablet to almost the same level as the iPad Microsoft wanted to compare to. Now they are looking to quickly give Windows based tablets an edge by throwing in Office 2013, but the sad part for Microsoft is that they are once again missing the boat. They are only doing this for the small 8-inch tablets and most people would want this in the 10-inch category. Considering Microsoft’s push for the cloud and the way they keep failing to meet consumer wants and needs it is doubtful that this move will help Windows 8 tablets sales very much.]
