IGZO screens for notebooks

Sharp will soon start mass producing of IGZO LCD screens for laptops. This would finally should allow bigger availability of high resolution screens in laptops, which have so far been well behind in comparison to tablets in the density of dots per inch.

Sharp will start the production of IGZO screens with a diagonal of 11.6, 14 and 15.6 inches in June at their factory Kameyama Plant No. 2, while displays with the diagonal 13.3 inches (2,560x1,440 pixels, 221 ppi) are already in production. IGZO displays provide higher resolution and brightness with lower power consumption compared to conventional LCD screens, and Sharp technology finally intends to commercialize them significantly. Except for the notebook version, they will introduce more models of IGZO screens for tablets, smartphones and Ultra HD TVs.

According to Sharp's data, announced notebook screens will have a resolution of 2,560x1,440 pixels and 253 ppi for the 11.6“ version and 3,200x1,800 points and 262 ppi for 14“, or 235 ppi for the 15.6“screen.
