Otellini worked for Intel since 1974 and during his leadership the company cemented the top spot in the development and production of computer processors and repeatedly achieved record revenues and earnings. The search for a replacement as CEO at Intel will last six months, the company announced and the administration will take into account not only people from the company, but also from outside of Intel. Otellini will stay at Intel as an adviser on strategic issues.
Intel's new CEO will be forced to focus on the development of mobile processors for use in tablets and smartphones, an area where Intel has failed for too long to offer an alternative to ARM which has been dominated by Qualcomm, Nvidia and Samsung. Even though there are some possible successors, Intel could decide to bring some truly fresh blood with innovative ideas to help them conquer the mobile chip market.
[Ed – Paul Otellini was a driving force with Intel there Intel evolved quite a lot under his guidance and we have already heard from more than one person that he will be sorely missed at Intel. However we have also heard that the vision that Otellini had still remains strong within Intel so while his departure is sad it will not slow them down. According to Francois Piednoel; “Well, the all company is sad ... But we have a battle to win, and he prepared us well, we have fantastic process technology, clovertrail is already more efficient than any ARM already, design wins are by 100s ... We are on track”
We have a feeling that while Intel will Miss Paul Otellini they will be just fine…]
