Microsoft releases a PC driver for the Xbox One Controller

Microsoft has finally released a driver that allows you to use the Xbox One Controller on a PC. For some this is big news and they have been waiting for it since shortly after the release of Microsoft’s latest console. For others this might not be such a big deal as you can simply use the older Xbox 360 controllers or buy a PC game controller if you really need to get your PC gaming fix (many PC gamers still use a keyboard and mouse).

According to Microsoft the new controller will work with any game that works with the 360 controller, but you will get a better gaming experience saying: “We can't wait for them to play their favorite PC games with what we consider the best controller ever made and we're excited for fans to experience the improved D-pad, redesigned battery compartment, new comfortable design and offset analog sticks.”

Right now the Xbox One lags behind the Sony PS4 as the console of choice and is facing competition from normal PC games. This move by Microsoft is part of a softening of some of their earlier policies with regards to how controlled the Xbox One would be. Originally Microsoft stated that you would not be able to buy the Xbox One without the Kinect, but have since changed their minds. This is similar to the resistance that Microsoft originally gave about having a Windows Driver for the Xbox One controller.

We wonder what other things Microsoft will give in on moving forward with the Xbox One and other products they have. Who knows, maybe Microsoft will return to some of their old ways and recapture some of the market they are losing by trying to be just like Apple…
