New Core i3 and Celeron for non-demanding users

Intel intends to introduce three lower-end processors for the lower segment of the market very soon which will be based on existing architectures. In the plan are the Celeron G470 chipset, Core i3-3245 and Core i3-3250, with the Celeron model based on the Sandy Bridge architecture, and the remaining two have Ivy Bridge processor design.

Celeron G470 is at the bottom of the power chain for these new processors with one physical core clocked at 2 GHz clock speed, it supports HyperThreading (HT), 1.5 MB L3 cache and 35W TDP. The dual-core model Core i3-3245 with 3.4 GHz clock speed will also have support for HT, 3 MB L3 cache, 55W TDP and integrated Intel HD graphics 4000 core.

Finally, the Core i3-3250 processor also comes in a dual-core version that runs at 3.5 GHz clock speed with support for HT and the same TDP and the amount of L3 cache as i3-3245, while the integrated GPU is slightly weaker Intel HD 2500. Prices and release date of these processors are still unknown.

[Ed – Intel knows that there is a market for these CPUs despite the move to the Next Unit of Computing. Many businesses and consumers want to be able to install their own components even if they do not want to spend a ton of money. This is along the lines of what we have been hearing despite the claims that Intel will kill off the desktop socket. For the foreseeable future there will be a desktop socket market as there is simply too much money to be made there. What remains to be seen is how much these will cannibalize the higher end Atom market, but we will not really have a good idea about that until we know more about pricing.]
