Elop said that Here was made to be available on most of the mobile operating systems and devices, and how they want to allow the use of its platform to anyone with any type of device. It is this openness that should separate Here from all other location-based services and platforms.
The software development kit (SDK) for Android should be available during the first quarter of the 2013, and there are announcements that Here Maps for iOS will be available in a few weeks, obviously they want to take advantage of the current confusing situation with maps for Apple devices. They also announced a partnership with Mozilla regarding providing cartographic services through HTML5.
[Ed – Nokia could actually manage something of a quop here if they can get this to iOS quickly. Right now Apple’s map program is the butt of a significant number of Internet Jokes and Google is not rushing in to help them. A solid Nokia Product could slide in and oust both Apple and Google from the top spot. Of course, Nokia must make this work and work well to do this as they are not exactly known for their mapping prowess and help from Microsoft would not be much benefit either.]
