Nokia mocks Apple and the iPhone 5

After the Samsung commercial in which they stated that the next great thing is already here, referring to their Galaxy S3 and where they listed the features they have comparing to the much shorter iPhone 5's list, Nokia has released their own commercial. In this commercial they mock the Apple's device. They have also released a video advertisement on YouTube that features the iPhone 5 and their new Lumia 920. The movie does not include any dialog but it's pretty clear what the message is.

It all starts with a long line of identical darkened people, with one of them standing out. The walls are covered with big signs that say 4 > 5, and every one of the customers in line pay a certain amount of money; which appears to be a lot. Then they receive the black iPhone and just go out with them staying boring as they were until then. After the one person in crowd that was standing out comes to the cashier and asks if he can get the device in yellow color, it triggers all sorts of alarms and chaos breaks lose. He leaves the store and sees people in different colors, like purple, yellow and other Lumia colors, the music starts playing and colors begin to burst all over place.

Is the vibrant colored lineup of Lumia devices the turning point that will bring them more users; maybe, but Apple customers mostly buy it because they think it's a great fashion accessory. Perhaps Nokia will get a younger population to buy it due to so many colors, but true smartphone users will always pay more attention to performance. I'm not saying that design doesn’t matter, but what's the point of multiple color choices if you will be disappointed with how the device works. Would you switch to Windows Phone 8 just to get all of Lumias colors that Nokia is so proud of, or do you need better reason to buy their devices?

[Ed – This type of marketing is very interesting in that it is trying to promote individuality. The sad part is that under Windows Phone 8 you lose a lot of that. Sure you get a nice looking phone with a ton of color options and in some cases an amazing camera, but what you lose is so much more when it comes to the specifications of these phones and the limitations that Windows Phone has. There will be an increase in Windows Phone sales, but not a particularly large one and we expect them to level off fairly quickly simply because Microsoft just does not get what people really want in a phone…]
