Identification of the sensor or rather the entire SoC is the OV5645. It allows you to capture images at a resolution of five megapixels. Video will be recorded in 720p resolution at 60 frames per second and in full HD 1080p at 30 fps. According to OmniVision's statement, the sensor will offer enhanced sensitivity and reduced noise and additional effort has been invested in the function of reducing the amount of unwanted artifacts when shooting. Using an MIPI interface will reduce costs for manufacturers of smartphones, and the sensor is based on the company’s technology OmniBSI +.
Margasahayam also said “Furthermore, because the OV8835 is pin-to-pin compatible with the previous-generation OV8830, manufacturers can easily and quickly upgrade to a dramatically improved 8-megapixel camera.” It will fit into an industry standard 8.5x8.5mm package. The first devices based on the new sensor are expected in the first half of next year.
