As expected, earnings of the Korean technology giant Samsung has dropped in the last quarter of 2013. Compared to the year before, the company's profit decreased by 6%, and stopped at 7.73 billion. The operating profit of the department who earns the most, one for mobile devices, has remained the same as a year ago, but fell by as much as 18 % compared to the previous quarter. It is believed that the reason for this is the release of new iPhone models which dragged away customers from Samsung, especially in the pre-Christmas period.
At the upcoming Mobile World Congress which will be held in Barcelona, Nokia will supposedly present their new, somewhat controversial, mobile phone, about which more and more information leaks on the web. A month ago we published one of the first image of the device called Nokia Normandy, the first smartphone from this manufacturer that will be based on the Android OS.
Options to pay via mobile phones are nothing new, but it seems that Apple doesn't like any of the current solutions. Instead of supporting some of the existing solutions, the company reportedly decided to develop their very own.
Apple and Samsung were the world's largest buyers of chips last year among device manufacturers with total revenues exceeding one billion dollars according to data collected by the company IHS. Apple took the first spot with a total consumption of the chips in the amount of 30.3 billion dollars, while Samsung took second place with $20.2 billion spent on chips.
