"Patriotic" Apple invests into US production process

At yesterday's hearing before the Senate committee, the head of Apple, Tim Cook, has confirmed that the company will invest $100 million into production process in the United States, specifically in Texas. Computers will also be made from components manufactured in the states of Illinois and Florida with equipment made in Kentucky and Michigan.

According to AllThingsD, Foxconn already has a plant in Texas that will probably be used to create new Macs, and Apple is building its own campus in Austin, Texas, and it is obvious that they have chosen Texas as a demonstration of their „patriotic“ economy. The company so far had some minor production capacities in the U.S. and some iMac models were manufactured in the U.S., while some were not.

It is generally believed that cell phones are unlikely to be made in domestic, American factories because of the adjustment of the production line that is very demanding for products with such short periods of refreshment, also deadlines of adjusting the process can realistically be fulfilled only by Far Eastern producers with very low labor costs, questionable respect for workers' rights and "army“ of employees in the manufacturing branch of electronics industry where there is no counterpart in the west.

They know that they are looking bad with the eBook Pricefixing suit and the investigations over their taxes. By dropping a few dollars in the US they hope to turn some of this around. Sadly the move will not remove the stigma of ether of these. It also will not turn drooping sales around either. Instead it looks like Apple is following Samsung into Texas (Samsung already has a major production plant in Texas) and that is exactly where Apple does not want to be, seen as the follower...]
