Plastic light bulbs to remove the buzzing

Say goodbye to boring fluorescent tubes that cuts the nerves in your office with buzzing and flashing. Scientists at Wake Forest University have invented an alternative lighting technology that works on the basis of the electroluminous field of induced polymer (FIPEL), which radiates a "soft" white light instead of yellow and blue hues typical for emitting LEDs. “People often complain that fluorescent lights bother their eyes, and the hum from the fluorescent tubes irritates anyone sitting at a desk underneath them,” says professor of physics and director of the Center for Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials David Carroll.

“The new lights we have created can cure both of those problems and more.” Scientists use a polymer matrix produced using nanotechnology, which allowed them to create a completely new kind of light bulb. The system consists of three layers of flexible white colored polymer, mixed with a small amount of nanomaterials that radiates light when it is stimulated, in order to create a clear and pure white light most favored  by the human eye.

In addition, the new bulbs can be manufactured in various colors and in any form, which means it can be adapted to all types of lamps and luminaires. Researchers also noted that the new lighting system is two times more efficient than fluorescent tube and energy-competitive LED lighting. The new light even gives more light than LEDs. Wake Forest University says that is already working with a company that has a plan to bring the new technology to the market over the next year so be patient, because silence is near.
