The new smartphone is currently being tested by hundreds of people in Israel. The key thing is a specially designed interface that allows the use of smartphones without looking. Navigation is simple, because the vibration and voice messages provide feedback to user actions. Particularly interesting is the ability to convert text-to-voice read text, whether it's a text message or e-books. Users are given access to audio books from the Central Library for the Blind through an Internet connection, rather than having to wait to get to the audio books on CD.
Other information, such as when the smartphone could come to market or how much it will cost, is still unknown. It's nice to see that someone cares for people with disabilities at a time when everyone is competing to push smartphone with bigger screens and higher resolutions. Hopefully the test phase will have good results so the device will become available as soon as possible to everyone who needs it.
