Safer and more energy efficient SandForce

LSI has expanded features of SandForce SF-2200 controller line for SSD solutions. The company has also added support for hardware-based data encryption (SED) and reduced controllers power consumption in the standby mode.

With firmware upgrade, SF-2200 controllers now support the TCG Opal specification with a hardware AES 256-bit encryption, a highly sought features among corporate users and government agencies. In addition, the new SF-2200 series controller will come with DevSleep energy saving technology, which according to LSI's words brings up to 400 times lower power consumption in standby mode.

The technology is compatible with Connected Standby option of Windows 8 (below 5 percent of power consumption in 16 hours), which would further extended autonomy of the battery in tablets and laptops. Support for the TCG Opal specification will be available to as a free firmware update for existing devices, while DevSleep technology comes implemented in new versions of SandForce SF-2200 controller.
