Daily earnings are estimated in the amount of 7,000 pounds, and spam messages included notice of the potential earnings of £3500 on the basis of accident insurance. “Our message to the public is that if you don't know who sent you a text message then do not respond, otherwise your details may be used to generate profits for these unscrupulous individuals. Together we can put an end to this unlawful industry that continues to plague our daily lives” The Information Commissioner said.
In their defense, the spammers had been told that they had permission to send text messages to such a large number of people, but the court did not recognize it. The British office in charge of these issues is currently leading an investigation against an additional three companies for allegedly sending spam to mobiles.
[Ed – The Mobile world is the new playground for Malware, Spam and worse. All of this reminds me of the companies that would spam fax machines using autodialers in the 90s. This was followed by the lucrative spam market in the late 90s which is still going on today. I am just glad that they are actually being punished and fined for this type of behavior now…]
