Twitter giving up on encrypted messages

Although most things related to the Twitter are public, the company has enabled its users to exchange direct messages that concern only them and whose content is not visible to others.

Once the numerous scandals were discovered, and in order impede monitoring of its users to various intelligence and other government agencies, Twitter has decided to introduce a direct message encryption. The first rumors about it have appeared in November last year, which was not so suprising since Twitter was one of the few companies that have publicly opposed the PRISM program.

However, many were suprised that Twitter early this year for unknown reasons, left the project of encrypted messages. Although the Twitter refused to officially comment on the new situation, The Verge says that an unnamed source confirmed freeze of the project indefinitely, and that encryption will certainly not be implemented during this or the next quarter.
