Nokia's revenue is still generated through the sales of cheap devices in emerging markets. In accordance with the shifting business to Windows Phone, the company has also offered a cheap device based on the Microsoft OS. The new Lumia 510 will replace the 610 as the new entry level Windows Phone smartphone. Initial markets are India and China, but after it launches in September it should move quickly to other Asian and South American countries.

The device has a 4-inch WVGA screen resolutions and will be shipped with Windows Phone 7.5 (not windows Phone 8), a Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor, 256 MB of RAM, and a rear five-megapixel camera with autofocus (f/2.4 at 28 mm). The 510 also has built-in 4 GB permanent flash memory that is unfortunately not expandable with memory cards, but the manufacturer said that with the new cell phone, just like on any other Windows Phone, comes 7 GB of SkyDrive Cloud Storage. The Lumia 510 will ship with Nokia Maps and Drive.

Although the device will ship with Windows Phone 7.5, owners will be able to install an upgrade to version 7.8 when the OS becomes available. The executive VP of Nokia Smart Devices, Jo Harlow said “With the Nokia Lumia 510 we continue to meet our commitment to bring Windows Phone to new, lower price points. People who use Windows Phone quickly realize how much more intuitive it is than other smartphone platforms, and Nokia Lumia is the best embodiment of the Windows Phone experience. With the Nokia Lumia 510 we’re looking forward to welcoming more people into the Windows Phone experience.” The estimated price for the device is around $200.
