Jelly Bean got 25% of Android users

The number of devices that run Android version 4.x rose once again, but maybe not so explosive as compared to 16.5% increase last month. The figure of 25% of the device running on Android 4.x Jelly Bean and such a large jump in the month was not due to the fact that a few hundred thousand or even million users bought new smartphones.

The Facephone could be a reality on April 4th

It looks like the rumors of the death of the “Facephone” could have been exaggerated. According to some interesting rumors flying around the internet, Facebook might release their own branded version of Android on HTC hardware. This means that the potential for a Facebook banded phone is more likely than many (including us). Interestingly enough we did catch this potential in an article we wrote last year in May. We had spoken with Paul Amsellem, CEO of Mobile Network Group about the possibility of a Facephone and he had indicated that if this were to be a reality we would need to see a real product (OS or Phone) in 12-18 months. That article was published on May 30 2012. This seems to be a very unusual coincidence.

Will the LG Megalodon be the Nexus 5?

On the site Android and Me we came upon pictures and specifications of Google's alleged new "smart" phone under the tag Nexus 5. The unit is reportedly scheduled to arrive on the market in October, and Google is currently evaluating prototypes of different manufacturers, including one from LG that carries the code name "Megalodon".

Android 5.0 codenamed Key Lime Pie should be launched in May. Apparently, if you believe the sources of SamMobile, Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II will get the upgrade to the new OS. However for bunch of their devices Android 4.2.2 will be the final version.

It’s not a big secret that Google has come to the Android by the acquisition, and not by their own creation of a mobile operating system, but since the project began to develop in their plants, until now it has been led by Andy Rubin, who some consider to be the "father of Android."

iPad passed by Android tablets

According to yesterday announcement from IDC's analysis, this will be the first year in which the number of tablets with Android operating system will surpass the number of Apple iPads. IDC believes that the smaller tablet size and low cost with Google's OS will win almost 49% of tablet market, while the iPad last year's 51% will drop to 46%.

Photoshop is now available to users of mobile phones with Android or iOS operating systems. The new application name is Photoshop Touch, in relation to the version for tablet devices; the interface is changed, while the functionality remains pretty much the same.

Shazam reaches 300 million users

Shazam announced that they globally have over 300 million users of their services. This application for detecting the performer of songs is available on smartphones and tablets. Andrew Fisher, Shazam CEO said “The number of Shazam users and their level of engagement continue to grow rapidly. We now have over 300 million Shazamers globally with an increasing proportion of whom use our app on their iPad or Android tablet devices to interact with television. This new version of Shazam optimizes discovery, engagement, transactions and exploration in a tablet environment“

Firefox OS availability

Mozilla has released new details about the availability of Firefox OS devices. Just before the start of the Mobile World Congress Mozilla they released a list of telecom operators, hardware manufacturers and the countries where smartphones running OS Firefox will initially be available. Some of the companies listed have already announced they have started development of smartphones with this OS. Among those listed are Samsung, LG and ZTE, and later this year they should be joined by Huawei. All these producers will make their models based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon mobile processors.
