Google to bring the most advanced smartphone yet

According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is preparing the ground for the launch of a new high-end Android smartphone, which will seek to topple Apple and its iPhone. The new phone will be created by Motorola and in the current phase it carries the code name X phone and is expected to be launched sometime in 2013.

Faster Facebook app for Android

Facebook has released a new edition of their application for use on devices based on Android. Unlike previous versions the new is not based on HTML, but a native app for Google's mobile OS. Frank Qixing Du, an engineer on the Facebook for Android team said that “This new release creates a solid foundation for the Facebook for Android app moving forward. The infrastructure in place will let us continue to make the app even faster, smoother, and feature-rich.”

New Gmail app for iOS

After releasing a new version for Android smartphones and tablets, Google has released a new version of their Gmail application for iPhone and iPad. Beside the new design, the biggest news is the ability to use up to five different Gmail accounts on one device. In the older versions user were able to use only one. Integration with other Google applications has been improved, for example, if you receive an invitation to an event from Google Calendar to you Gmail inbox, you no longer need to open another application to confirm the attendance because you can do it directly from Gmail now.

No Android for Nokia smartphones

After Nokia announced a deal in which they are seeking Linux specialists, many of the "experts" interpreted this as a sure sign that the company might cross over, or at least be planning to switch to Android. However, no matter how much we want to see Lumias running Android it looks like that will not happen.

Microsoft’s Windows store hits 20k apps

The Windows Store has over 20,000 applications as announced by the Win App Update on their twitter feed. Of this number, according to the unofficial data, 87% are free of charge. Speaking at a London Game Conference, a Microsoft marketing manager Andrew Webber revealed another fact -  until recently the Windows Store had fewer than 1,500 games (at the time of writing the text 1,615), in the category of racing there are only 13 of them.

Mozilla Announces Firefox OS Simulator

Mozilla has allowed developers and other interested users to start test the upcoming Firefox OS. Firefox OS simulator r2d2b2g has been released, which is a prototype Firefox plugin that allows easy installation and testing of the new OS on Windows, Linux and Mac OSX.

For a long time there have been rumors flowing around the internet about who would make the first smartphone with a screen capable of FullHD resolution. Some of the rumored manufacturers were Sony, HTC and LG, which are among the first to release a 5-inch FullHD panel but not the device. From all this you could only find a variety of different tests and pictures showing some HTC devices. Now it is finally official, HTC has announced its 5-inch FullHD device in Japan.

ZTE brings Nubia to the market

It is not known what led the Chinese ZTE to select Nubia for the name of their new series of high-end smartphones (some media reported that the word in Latin means "cloudy" and the ancient Egyptian "gold"), but that's exactly the name they will use for their smartphones. They announced their line of devices with this interesting name and are hoping that they will be a decent competitor to another Chinese manufacturer, Huawei.
