With the official launch of the new Intel processors the introduction of new motherboards also started. Gigabyte offer is as usual huge and consists of as many as 25 different boards.

ARM has introduced a new processor architecture and accompanying GPU, designed for mobile devices from mid-priced range. They presented CPU ARM Cortex-A12, Mali-T622 GPU and video processor Mali-V500.

In addition to the GeForce GTX 770, Nvidia has unveiled their line-up from the GTX series chips for laptops this week. Featured models are GeForce GTX 760M, 765M, 770m and 780m, all with support for GPU Boost 2.0 and with higher performance than the previous generation.

AMD kicked an interesting product out the door today in the form of their Operton X-Series APU SoC. You might remember that the possibility of this APU was leaked a while ago by an inadvertent inclusion on a slide showing the Operton X logo. Everyone knew this was going to fold over into an x86 APU based SoC and the launch was just a matter of time. Now the lid is off and we can talk about the Opteron X (Kyoto) and where AMD sees this new product in their server business and in the market as a whole.

Some of you might remember the days of the “P” rating CPUs. It was an interesting time when you never really knew what you were actually getting in terms of clock speed. Instead you were able to get a CPU named something like P333 or P500. This was an attempt by some manufacturers to show their “P”erformance rating in relation to Intel’s Pentium. Cyrix, AMD, and a couple of others used this to sell CPUs. Unfortunately everyone knew that the P did not really stand for performance it really meant Pentium equivalency. A Cyrix P667 was supposed to perform as well as an Intel Pentium 667 (at least on paper). Sadly this just confused the market more and we all had the fun of trying to figure out what our CPUs were really doing. Now we might be seeing the trend return, but perhaps in reverse as AMD has announced the Centurion CPU.

There has been an interesting shift in the market over the last few months as we watch another former AMD engineer/executive return to the fold. AMD has announced that Raja Koduri will be bringing his graphic expertise back to AMD. Koduri was preceded by Mark Papermaster and Jim Keller who both left Apple for AMD last year. These returns are interesting in that Apple was once seen as the company to work for and, according to many analysts, had an almost unlimited earning and growth potential. However, after the death of Steve Jobs Apple has slumped and the once loud predictions of Apple reaching $1,000 per share are long gone as the stock continues to drop.

SiverStone presented several processor coolers inside Argon product line, designed for Intel and AMD chips. They presented three classic tower design coolers which differ in the diameter of the fan and the number and thickness of the hot water pipes.

Morris Chang, founder and director of TSMC published some of the company's plans for the near and distant future. The company has moved the start of production of 16 nanometer chips in SONFET technology to the end of this year, which is slightly earlier than planned.

Apart from the evolution of the APU model, AMD could aslo have exclusive edition of FX chip for enthusiasts in preparation. According to unofficial information, the company is preparing a limited series of processors based on Vishera design or model FX-8350.

At IDF Beijing conference in Beijing, Intel presented the characteristics of the Bay Trail generation of processors intended for tablet makers. According to Intel, a completely new architecture in a somewhat anemic Atoms. They estimate the new generation of the fuel-efficient processor will enable the design of the device thickness of only 8 mm, which can work all day with only one battery, and weeks will be in stand-by mode. However they did not mention how big would the battercy capacity be.
