Nvidia GeForce Titan first pictures
The official launch of Nvidia's GeForce GTX Titan is expected this week, but for the impatient ones, here are some (unofficially) released official photos of the cards.
AMD continues to give away free games with their video cards
Last year, AMD decided to reward future owners of the Radeon HD 7900 and 7800 series with free keys for Far Cry 3, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs and a discount for Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Satisfied with the results of those actions, this year they created a new one, with an even better range of popular gaming titles.
AMD cuts wafer orders
AMD, in the last quarter of this year significantly reduced wafer orders from GlobalFoundries. According to the original agreement, AMD was supposed to but $500 Million worth of wafers from GlobalFoundries, but that figure is now down to about $ 115 million. AMD CEO Rory Read tried to cool the situation by saying “Today's announcement demonstrates that the long-term strategic partnership between AMD and GlobalFoundries continues to benefit both companies,” but it's obvious that this was something that AMD certainly did not want.
Asustek sales above planned
On an investors conference that Asustek hosted yesterday, company president, Jerry Shen announced that company sales have been beyond planned in Q2 of 2012. They achieved a new record in operating profits and profits before tax. They plan to ship out 22 million notebooks in 2012, and believe that the release of Windows 8 in the fourth quarter will be very important for their market results. According to Asustek there is a new wave of competition arriving at the end of the year that will reshuffle the rankings of tablet and notebook PC players. They announced consolidated revenues of $3.15 billion for second quarter, which is a 4% increase.
AMD FX-4130 Shows Up For PreSale and AMD Cuts Prices on GPUs...
Although the news has been more about the massive global war between Apple and anyone that makes an Android phone there is more going on in the world of tech than just those few items. Today we have heard that AMD will be launching a new CPU and it has already popped up for pre-order on at least one site. The news is noteworthy in that the CPU was originally expected to hit earlier this year with a number of other SKUs. We are not sure if today’s announcement is an indication that we will be seeing the other six missing products in the coming months, but for AMD fans this is potentially very good news.
US CERT Calls AMD Out For A Security Issue In Their GPU Drivers
Ok, you know things are going bad for a product push when you hear that even the US Cyber Emergency Response Team (CERT) has decided to weigh in on security issues surrounding the use of your product. In an unusual move US CERT has released a paper outlining very specific security issues with AMD Video Drivers. This issue would affect their desktop, professional mobile and even APU based drivers.
Trinity APUs Have Great Graphics, But The CPUs Inside Still Have Memory and Caching Issues
We have talked quite a bit about AMD’s move to the APU (something that they talked about long before the ATi buyout) and what it has, so far, meant to AMD. Right now AMD’s Llano and Trinity APUs have brought something of a resurgence of AMD in the market at least at the lower priced level. AMD CEO Rory Reed has even go so far as to state that AMD is pushing for more GPU processing to handle more graphically geared content and to work with future cloud services. The problem is that so far, while AMD’s APUs are working great for gaming they have still not been able to keep up with Intel for computing power even at the same price points.
nVidia launches the GTX 690 Dual Kepler Graphics Card
Although we have to say that the actual news was still very cool we are a little disappointed that it appears we were wrong about the crowbar that nVidia sent in the mail to a group of websites. Late last night (well at least while we were sleeping) nVidia announced the launch of the GTX 690. This is the rumored dual GTX 680 graphics card that is supposed to catapult nVidia to the top of the heap.
AMD's Long Decline Started Back in 2006 With the Purchase Of ATi *Update*
Over the course of the last year or so we have watched as a once solid company has started to crumble into a shadow of its former self. Yes we are talking about AMD and although the trip down the path to where they are now started years ago we have to wonder if there was ever a chance to change things and get the company back on track.
2012 looks like it is the year of the leak; this time it is nVidia... again
Wow it looks like this month is the moth for leaks; we have seen early leaks on Intel’s Z77 chipset, nVidia’s mobile Kepler GPU and even early full reviews of Intel’s Ivy Bridge (this incident sent some at Intel over the edge). Now we have new leaks on nVidia’s Kepler. The first leak was a simple one that involved the early publishing of nVidia’s GTX 680 launch video. Apparently this was leaked on the eve of the launch (which if rumor is to be believed) is tomorrow some time.
