iSuppli, now part of IHS, has again thrown themselves into dismantling devices, identifying the manufacturers of individual components and estimating how much these components would cost. This time it was iPad mini's turn iSuppli went after the basic 16 gigabyte model without WiFi which sells for $329, but has a relative production cost around $ 188. Of course, this is only the cost of materials and the difference between the selling price and the cost of materials is not pure profit. This is because companies spend a lot of money on the development, marketing and software support for the device. At the same time, they must pay the people who have made the devices.

Unfortunately for everyone who expected Google's event that was to happen today they won’t be seeing it. Google has officially canceled the event over fears about hurricane Sandy [and rightly so]. The event was very much anticipated because the company was expected to announce their new LG Nexus 4 smartphone as well as a Nexus 10 tablet manufactured by Samsung. As the hurricane was predicted to hit New Your City on Sunday or Monday, with the threat of flooding and wind damage they decided that it's best to put the event off.

 LG Elevator

The electronics company LG has come up with a rather novel way to showcase their new IPS line of televisions. The US Patent system, both the methods used for filing and also the methods used to protect IP is becoming a joke. We have seen as patents are being filed in greater frequency with very little other than wording to differentiate them with other products, but broad enough to make sure the filing company can still sue someone else that makes a similar product. On top of that we have judges that are not qualified technically to preside over the cases they are being overwhelmed with. To say that the system is broken would be like calling a nuclear explosion a “bang”.
