As we hear more about Supply Chain attacks and the need for Software Build of Materials we are now hearing of an attack on the popular game, Minecraft. It seems that attackers are leveraging popular Modding platforms to push out information stealing malware (Fractureiser). They are accomplishing this by injecting malicious code into modifications that are then uploaded to different platforms. These are then downloaded and installed by unwary gamers.

Minecraft To Get An Update Soon

The newest major update for Minecraft on the PC is slated for October 24th, which is just around the corner! This update has been dubbed, in true end-of-October tradition, “The Pretty Scary Update”. If you are familiar with Minecraft, there are a number of features to this patch which make it very scary, especially if you have gotten used to monsters in the game being pushovers, and only dangerous en masse (with exception to the suicidal creeper, of course).

The Minecraft team pushes out a new game

Markus “Notch” Persson, the lead designer of Minecraft, has made the statement that they will not port Minecraft to Windows 8. Instead they are devoting their time to focus on a new project. They have started developing new game called 0x10c (10 to the C) and now they have released a few details about it in a video. We get to see some early gameplay footage, showing physics, graphics, lightning and some basic movement through space. It feels a lot like Minecraft if you ask me, but it will be a first-person space simulator.

Just as we wrote about Minecraft creator Persson and his refusal to release a Minecraft version for Windows 8, they marked a 4 million sales milestone for their Xbox 360 version of the game. 4J Studios tweeted “Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has passed 4 million sales! Incredible number, thanks to you all!”. With numbers constantly increasing it's not really a big deal for them to decide not to support newest Windows.

Minecraft developer disses Windows 8

minecraft wins

I was never sure why people play Minecraft and even after I watched people play it I couldn’t find anything interesting in it. Now I have started to like them, as game maker Markus “Notch“ Persson has expressed his disappointment over Windows 8. If you are a fan of this game, and play it regularly don’t rush with upgrading to Windows 8, because you won’t be able to play the game if you do that. That's right, Persson stated on his twitter “Got an email from Microsoft, wanting to help “certify“ minecraft for win8. I told them to stop trying to ruin the pc as an open platform.”
