iSuppli, now part of IHS, has again thrown themselves into dismantling devices, identifying the manufacturers of individual components and estimating how much these components would cost. This time it was iPad mini's turn iSuppli went after the basic 16 gigabyte model without WiFi which sells for $329, but has a relative production cost around $ 188. Of course, this is only the cost of materials and the difference between the selling price and the cost of materials is not pure profit. This is because companies spend a lot of money on the development, marketing and software support for the device. At the same time, they must pay the people who have made the devices.

galaxys3-30m

In May of this year Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S III smartphone, which has so far sold 30 million copies! By comparison, during the same period in 2011, the previous model Galaxy S II sold over ten million copies. Obviously it's no coincidence that many techies and common users like to give it the title of the best smartphone available.

Apple's iPad Mini uses... Samsung parts?

iPad Mini X

Often times consumers are duped into the allure of Apple on the grounds that they are supposedly getting superior product. There is an assumption that because it is an “Apple” product, rather than Android or any other competitor, it is made out of superior parts. What if customers found out that the differences between these products are really only skin deep?

judges-bench

Last week we ran an article about the way that Apple chose to comply with an order from a UK judge to set the record straight about their continuous claims that Samsung copied Apple with their Tab line of products. Although many read this as an order to apologize for slandering Samsung Apple did not see it that way and chose instead to only acknowledge the fact that the UK High Court had ruled that Samsung was not guilty of infringement and then followed that up with more claims that Samsung’s Tab Copied the iPad including a misleading statement that Samsung was found guilty in the US for this.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 event

Windows8-Logo

In San Francisco, a little after 10 o'clock local time, Microsoft began formally presenting Windows Phone 8. This is Microsoft’s new operating system for mobile devices which is a direct successor of Windows Phone 7, but also the link between Windows 8, Windows RT computers, and handheld devices. Although for now only three device manufacturers have reaffirmed their support for the new mobile OS (Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, HTC Windows Phone 8x and 8S and Samsung Galaxy S Ativ), for Microsoft this is the most important event of the year after they launched Windows 8 and their Surface RT tablets. In addition to the big three mentioned earlier, it is expected that Huawei will launch smartphones with WP8, presumably the Ascend W1 model, designed for the lower segment of the smartphone market. ZTE also plans to release their model next year.

14621rotten apple

If Apple were a person they would need some serious psychological help. It seems that they have a personality that will not let them tell the truth at all. They dance around the truth and mix it up with spin and outright fantasy. You can see this trait by looking at any of their product launches or at any of the court cases they are involved in. Earlier this year we said that Apple insistence on pursuing a global legal campaign instead of innovating was going to hurt them and badly. Because they wanted to try and compete in the market with vague patents and outlandish copyrights Apple felt secure in being able to keep the market focus while blocking their competition through sales bans.

No more Samsung LCD panels for Apple

samsung-logo

Samsung’s ongoing war with Apple is continuing as Samsung has decided not to provide any more LCD panels for various Apple products. Although the reason behind this is said to be less profit due to Apple's new supply pricing strategy, if we consider what happened in the last few years with these two companies it's no wonder that they have decided to stop the partnership. Samsung should compensate this with increased orders coming from Amazon, as they are doing great with their new Kindle family of devices.

google invitation

It looks like Google will bring quite few new things to their next event; a new Nexus tablets and Android 4.2 are to be announced. Some of the most anticipated things are the new Nexus 7 tablets with 3G connectivity and a 10-inch Nexus tablet. There will be also a Nexus reference coming from LG. A 32GB version of the Nexus 7 is apparently confirmed to be revealed, which should achieve great success as customers have shown great interest in it. To top it all; one of the new things that should arrive is 32GB version with 3G, and HSPA+ for the on-the-go connectivity.
