US Supreme Court Rules Abstract Software Patents are a No Go
In a somewhat surprising decision the US Supreme Court has rules that patents that cover an “abstract idea” are not valid. This was the final outcome of a battle between two financial institutions, Alice Corp and CLS Bank. The story is one that has played out very often, Alice Corp. holds the patent for the concept of an electronic escrow system. CLS wants to use the same type of system, but as the patent held by Alice Corp is so vague and abstract they cannot do so without running the risk of infringing.
Samsung Might Buy the Company Behind Siri, Nuance
There is another rumor of a buy out on the net. This time the company up in the display window is Nuance. If you do not know who these guys are you at least know some of the products their technology is in. Nuance develops speech recognition and voice technology. They are in Apple’s Siri and Samsung’s S-Voice products (they are in many others as well).
Samsung teams up with Facebook for VR
After the purchase of Oculus VR for a cool $2 Billion many people wondered what Facebook was up to. The purchase did not seem to make any sense. However, if you looked closely at some of Facebook’s other purchases and also where many big players in the market were heading it made a lot of sense. Facebook wanted to enter the world of augmented reality and had plans for a social game with an immersive user experience. Oculus VR was almost tailor made for what they wanted to do.

Samsung rumored to be releasing a stand-alone smartwatch soon
Irony is described by Miriam Webster as: a situation that is strange or funny because things happen in a way that seems to be the opposite of what you expected. This is exactly what we have in the current (and immature) market for the smartwatch. Although we have heard Apple’s PR and legal teams cry that Samsung copies everything they do (Tim Cook once claimed Apple as the sole source of innovation) it seems that Apple is falling behind the company that some Apple fans dub “samesung”. At least this is the case in the Smartwatch market.
Samsung is shutting down Music Hub
Samsung has quietly started shutting down its Music Hub service for streaming and purchase of music from Samsung which is intended to compete with popular services such as iTunes and Spotify. However, they did not manage to compete with them so they decided the time has come to say goodbye.

Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit sold out after 10 days of availability
Samsung recently introduced a sports armband Gear Fit, the latest addition to the line of smart watches Gear 2, which caused a huge demand in the market, at least by Samsung's partners and distributors. Just ten days from its official launch, as reported by the Korean MK News, all factory stock of this gadget are sold out.
