LTPS LCDs from Sharp in new Galaxy S5
If you believe the rumors from Chinese sources, whose claims were transferred by GSMArena, next Samsung's most advanced smartphone will make a step in a new direction. Instead of their own Super AMOLED screen, Samsung decided to implement LTPS (low-temperature polisilicon) LCD, sources say.

Sharp has announced a smartphone Aquos Phone Xx. It is a device with a screen diagonal of 5.2 inches, but thanks to a very thin edge of the screen measured dimensions are smaller than they are at comparable devices in class.

Sharp will soon start mass producing of IGZO LCD screens for laptops. This would finally should allow bigger availability of high resolution screens in laptops, which have so far been well behind in comparison to tablets in the density of dots per inch.

Sharp will start layoffs within their ranks as part of a restructuring plan according to sources close to the company. Over a period of three years, the number of employees should be reduced by 5,000. The company currently has 51,000 employees.
Samsung invests into Sharp
According to Reuters, Samsung and Sharp are in talks over a possible investment. The amount to be invested in the Korean giant by the Japanese Sharp is reportedly $110 million. This way they will buy around 36 million shares at a price of about $3.11.

Japanese Sharp could sell some plants and factories in China to Lenovo. Although there is no official information yet, Sharp is reportedly already in talks with Lenovo about the sale of the company to produce LCD TVs in Nanking and other affiliates that Sharp has in China.

Judging by the moves of some Japanese manufacturers, we are about to enter a period of ultra high-definition television [this is not really a big surprise as they created the name a few months ago –Ed]. Sharp is releasing a new model, the ICC Purios and it is supposed to be the best and most expensive TV available from this manufacturer. Sharp, who is in deep financial problems, could soon get a significant financial injection from the several companies, particularly Dell, Intel and Qualcomm. The three companies are holding talks with Sharp in about investing large amounts of cash into the company. Sharp has reportedly asked Dell and Intel for $240 million in exchange for shares in the company or as a debt. Qualcomm investments should probably be somewhat smaller.
