Sony shuts down MiniDisc
Sony will soon completely abandon the MiniDisc market, once a very popular solution for music on the move. The company's MiniDisc (MD) format was brought to market in 1992 as an alternative to the Walkman and Discman as the music was stored on magnetic-optical MD discs.
China looking to un-ban consoles
In China, for 12 years now, sales of consoles have been banned. According to local authorities, these devices are intended solely for entertainment and that is corrupting children's health, and therefore they are not desirable. [Ed – sounds like some of the politicians that are in the US…]
Are these the Specifications for the Xbox 720?
Portal VGLEAKS says they managed to get their hands on the detailed specifications of Microsoft's new video game console Xbox 720 (Durango). Although there is no indication from which source this information came from, it sounds quite plausible and very interesting. The leaked specs partially overlap with some earlier rumors which do add to their credibility.
Sony will wait for Microsoft to launch their console first
If we are to believe the rumors, this year both Sony and Microsoft are going to release their new game consoles - the question is who will be the first one to enter the spotlight. According to statements coming from Sony, it could be Microsoft.
Sony could release an Xperia Z tablet
After the smartphones presented at CES, Sony has a tablet from the Z Xperia product line in preparation. Official information on the specifications is still missing, but unofficial ones indicate a very competitive hardware worthy of the Xperia Z mark.
Will the PlayStation 4 show up at E3?
Sony's vice president of home entertainment, Hiroshi Sakamoto, in his statement to the Chilean website Emol, gave some clues that the PlayStation 4 could be presented before this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which takes place in June.
Sony aims for the top
Sony's new mobile strategy includes a comeback to the world's leading manufacturers of smartphones. This was confirmed by the president of the Xperia marketing department Stephen Sneeden, who predicts achieving the set target in the next two years, if all goes according to plan.
STMicroelectronics leaves ST-Ericsson
STMicroelectronics intends to get out of a joint company with Ericsson to manufacture mobile chip due to loses they have in this project. But analysts warn that STMicroelectronics will not be able to exit easily from the investment that just last year operated with a loss of $841 million, beside that Ericsson probably will not be interested in completely taking over the company.
Sony's hybrid gamepad
If you are a fan of Sony and their gamepads, there is some good news coming for you. With their Move controller that is becoming more and more popular as similar technologies are used across all other platforms too (Wii, Xbox kinect), they plan to introduce a new controller that will be the best of both. Sony has apparently successfully merged their standard DualShock gamepad with the somewhat newer Move and came up with a whole new controller.
Sony Yuga photos leaked
Pictures of what appears to be Sony's 5-inch C6603 mobile phone appeard on "Swiss Android Community" website Android-Schweiz, and even before any offical information it carries the code name Yuga. After the Samsung Galaxy Note was here for quite some time pretty much alone, it looks like he will be getting a lot of company in near future. Beside the Sony Yuga, there are LG Intuition, HTC Droid DNA and Oppo Find 5 also coming.
