Just as they conquered the Android world, or maybe even the whole smartphone market with their Galaxy S3, Samsung wants to do the same with Windows 8. On their invite with the “Framing The Future” catchphrase we can see two notebooks, and from the first look they will definitely try to make a good first impression with its thickness and neat design. The event will take place at the Museum and maybe that's just a hint from Samsung that they intend to do (or bring) something revolutionary.

Minecraft for Xbox 360 sold in 4 million copies

Just as we wrote about Minecraft creator Persson and his refusal to release a Minecraft version for Windows 8, they marked a 4 million sales milestone for their Xbox 360 version of the game. 4J Studios tweeted “Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has passed 4 million sales! Incredible number, thanks to you all!”. With numbers constantly increasing it's not really a big deal for them to decide not to support newest Windows.

Minecraft developer disses Windows 8

minecraft wins

I was never sure why people play Minecraft and even after I watched people play it I couldn’t find anything interesting in it. Now I have started to like them, as game maker Markus “Notch“ Persson has expressed his disappointment over Windows 8. If you are a fan of this game, and play it regularly don’t rush with upgrading to Windows 8, because you won’t be able to play the game if you do that. That's right, Persson stated on his twitter “Got an email from Microsoft, wanting to help “certify“ minecraft for win8. I told them to stop trying to ruin the pc as an open platform.”

Steam beta for Linux coming in October

Steam-Linux

“Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space. I think we’ll lose some of the top-tier PCs, and OEMs who will exit the market. I think margins will be destroyed for a bunch of people. If that’s true, then it will be good to have alternatives to hedge against that eventuality.” Valve's CEO Gabe Newell stated this back in July and only two months later we have the confirmation that they are testing Steam for Linux. An internal beta will start next week, and afterwards, sometime in October, Valve will invite (only) 1,000 people to test it.

Microsoft patches Flash bugs in Windows 8

flash-bug

On Friday Microsoft released an update for Flash on Windows 8 to protect their users from hacker attacks that could’ve started long ago since the bugs were here for quite some time. As it was stated about a week ago, Microsoft decided to take care of this bug and provided a patch for it Firday. Even though Flash Player is a product of Adobe, the whole work had to be done by Microsoft because they copied Google's Chrome and implemented Flash Player into their browser, Internet Explorer 10. They announced the implementation in May, saying “By updating Flash through Windows Update, like IE, we make security more convenient for customers.”

Microsoft To Become A Devices And Services Company

MS-Myth

Ever since the launch of the Surface tablet Microsoft has been going back and forth about their intentions with the new device. At one point Steve Ballmer made the statement that it was just intended as a “design point” to show the potential of Windows 8. He later made sales claims about the new devices and now could be starting to tell the truth about the direction that Microsoft is taking (one that we called some time ago). Ballmer is now saying that people will come to view Microsoft as a “devices-and-services company”. As it stands right now Microsoft will probably not be making all of the devices they would like to and Ballmer knows he has to walk a fine line between pushing Microsoft hardware and keeping the OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) happy.

There is nothing like buy a brand new PC complete with Malware designed to steal your personal information. Unfortunately that is exactly what has happened in a few stores in China. Microsoft conducted an investigation into the Nitol Botnet and during this investigation delved into some of the supply chain to Chinese retailers. What they found was that many computers are infected before they leave the factories. According to Microsoft the bought 20 computers from different locations in China and out of the twenty only 4 were found to be infected with Malware.

Code

-43 days. That is how long Windows 8 lasted before a major malware tool was released for it Windows 8 is not even official and there is already a major exploit kit that covers it. Earlier today cyber criminals announced the launch of Black Hole 2. The original exploit kit was used in more than a few pieces of malware since it first was launched in Beta format in late 2010. The exploit kit is offered in almost like a cloud service (which brings us back to irony). You have to lease access to it so you can develop your malware. The pricing is pretty with a year lease going for only $1500. Despite the success of this exploit kit, like all enterprises you must grow or die.

The new Big Project from Valve that is supposed to bring Steam to the TV and in some ways create competition for today’s consoles has been released today. It will transfer the existing Steam UI to one more practical for a TV screen such as huge icons, oversized text and big menus. This will be similar to the Xbox and Play Station UIs. Now PC users will finally be able to connect their machines to the TV and start playing laid back on their sofa without thinking will they have to push some keyboard buttons or navigate around with mouse, they can do that all with just gamepad.

broken-lock

As we have been working with Windows 8 and Windows 2012 server we have become increasingly concerned about security. Although Microsoft has claimed that they have improved security through items like the locked UEFI boot process there are still glaring omissions in security that keep popping up very recently it was noted that despite the claims from Microsoft of a more secure login process the password hint is exposed in the SID database and easily recovered remotely. We also found that users’ contact lists are also left in the open (and in plain text) and available to anyone that can gain remote elevated privileges; which is what almost all Viruses and Malware try to do.
