According to the Financial Times, YouTube (owned by Google) is preparing a new service that will allow owners of certain channels to charge a monthly fee in the amount of $2 to everyone who wants to watch their recordings.

Google added the VHS effect on certain YouTube videos. User can activate it by clicking on an icon in the form of tape at the bottom right of the YouTube player on the video clips that support this feature.

Google praised the increasing popularity of YouTube services for setting up and viewing video clips. The company has said that the new record was achieved marking huge one billion unique users per month.

The electronics company LG has come up with a rather novel way to showcase their new IPS line of televisions. IPS is a variation of LCD display screen that boasts clear colors, high refresh rates, and no 'tailing' when someone touches the screen. This makes them especially useful for touchscreen devices, and for LG's prank.

Leveraging the hype around the 2012 Olympics in London cyber criminals are pushing out malware via spam emails claiming that Gabrielle Douglas, who won a gold medal in Women's  Gymnastics All Around, will face lifetime ban from sport.  Obviously they are expecting that false news about doping scandals will help a lot in spreading the malware. The email is suggesting a link that will open up a false youtube page and prompt you to download  Adobe Flash plugin to view the content. Sophos, which first reported on this spam, detects the malware as Troj/Agent-XIK and Troj/JSRedir-IA.

When I was a kid I got my first cassette recorder (for those of you that do not know what this is a cassette was… well you can Google it). With this I was able to record music played on the radio onto blank cassettes so I was able to listen to what I wanted without all of the other songs I did not. What I did not know at the time was that the price I paid for those cassettes (and the actual recorder) also included a small royalty fee from the recording industry to cover some of the potential losses that they might incur from someone doing exactly what I did.

In what has to be an upset for Google’s YouTube video service German courts found that YouTube was indeed responsible for the copyrighted material posted by users. The findings of the court are frightening in more ways than just the big check that Google will be writing to pay for the Copyright infringement that happened due to users of the popular video service.

Google is working overtime to catch up to and pass other companies in the social networking and tablet market. While there is no doubt that Google+ has quite a ways to go, in the mobile OS department Google is doing considerably better especially once Android 4.0 hits the market.  Still there are Apps that are only available on the iPhone and iPad that keep some Apple fans tethered to the iPad. I know there are Apps and games that I really miss from when I had both an iPhone and an iPad

It seems that nothing is sacred anymore as someone has hacked Sesame Street’s YouTube channel. The channel was hacked on Sunday and all of the content replaced with Porn. On the profile page was a note from someone claiming responsibility for the attack (See Below). So far one of the people listed has already denied any involvement in the attack. The inappropriate content was visible for about 20 minutes before Google’s own internal mechanisms shut it down for “repeated or severe violations of our Community Guidelines.".


The attackers replaced the profile information with the statement below;
“WHO DOESN'T LOVE PORN KIDS? RIGHT! EVERYONE LOVES IT! IM MREDXWX AND MY PARTNER MRSUICIDER91 ARE HERE TO BRING YOU MANY NICE CONTENT! PLEASE DON'T LET SESAME STREET TO GET THIS ACCOUNT BACK KIDS :( PLEASE...LET ME AND MRSUICIDER91 HAVE IT AND WE GONNA MAKE ALL THE AMERICA HAPPY!”

This latest attack shows just how vulnerable YouTube is and how important it is for companies to maintain security on their sites. It also is a good lesson for parents that forget how bad the Internet can be. There really is no place where you can just let your kids browse freely, even sites like Disney.com can be hijacked and replaced with something bad.

Stunts like this are rather distasteful and while I have supported (to a limited degree) many of the “activist” activities in the hacking community I feel that a single act like this ruins any positive actions that are currently on-going. I do wonder how long it will be before the conspiracy theories about this start popping up though. In the mean time I hope that the community find and “corrects” the people that are responsible whoever they turn out to be.
