Reading time is around minutes.

Seven years after the launch, and more than 100 million sold devices worldwide, Nintendo has announced that it will soon stop production of the original Nintendo Wii console.

Wii was introduced in 2006 and was technically weaker than current consoles from Sony and Microsoft, but thanks to an innovative controller-based motion detection it achieved outstanding commercial success and sales even surpassed PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Nintendo on their Japanese site set a short notice that the production of original Wii will soon be discontinued. Specifically, Nintendo have decided to devote themselves entirely to the new generation of consoles, the Wii U, which is backward compatible with the accessories and games for the original Wii, but so far not it has not recorded particularly good sales results.
