In their media statement the company says that the three-layer Blu-ray discs with a capacity of 100 GB are the best media to use for playback of 4K content, which is very slowly appearing on the market, because there is no sufficiently large optical media currently available. With the development of new methods for data compression for UHD technology, the amount of information stored per layer can be increased from 25 GB to 33 GB, according to Singulus. They also mentioned that BDA organization (Blu-ray Disc Association) is currently considering a new global standards and Singlus has already created a market concept of a new line of reproduction.
It should be noted that Singulus are not involved in just producing and selling of the Blu-ray discs, but their business model is based on the sale of equipment for the duplication. In this case they use machines for making Blu-ray discs with movies. In other words, these drives are not designed for home "burning". It is very doubtful that we will soon have Blu-ray media and burners that would allow us to store data on the 100 GB drives, because optical media are increasingly losing the race against the SSDs and flash memory, so we will probably have only read-only drives here.
