Flurry based their data on the monitoring of 2.4 billion application sessions each day. They also point out that it is hard to expect anyone anytime soon to overtake China in this area. The only country that has some chance is India, with its 1.2 billion population, compared to 1.3 billion Chinese. Still despite the large number of inhabitants, India in January had only 19 million "smart" devices, which was equal to Brazil and Russia in ninth place.
Far behind the U.S. and China in third place was the United Kingdom with 43 million "smart" devices, followed by the South Korea (30 million) and Japan (29 million).
