The IHS predicts that by the 2015 netbooks will practically disappear from the market, after in the 2014 their deliveries fall to small 264,000 pieces. Most major manufacturers of netbooks already cut their production, and what is left is only a very limited amount of those earlier made contractual obligations to the customers.
As the main reason for the collapse of netbooks IHS iSuppli holds the release of the iPad, and generally strong growth in popularity of all kinds of tablets that will better meet the needs of most users.
[Ed – I can remember when the netbook and nettop came out, it was a great concept a small device that was capable of media consumption and a very small amount of content creation. Unfortunately it was improperly marketed and some of the compnaies that were pushing the form-factor made things worse. To make up for the bad marketing companies started packing more and more into the netbooks and nettops until they became standard PCs. We have a bad feeling that the same thing is happening with today's tablets just look at any of the marketing material for the tablets on the market today and you can easily see it.]
