Geohot leaves the public jailbreak scene

iPhone4JailbreakbyGeohotThe original iPhone Hacker George Hotz best known as Geohot has finally had enough of the pestering, spamming and general obnoxious behavior of the jailbreak “consumers”. In an understandable but no less disappointing move, Geohot has closed his blog to the public and now requires an invite to read it. He has also closed his Twitter page.

It seems that once jailbreaking became an easy to do and common item people no longer appreciated his work. Despite the fact that he was doing all of it for free people began to demand release dates, jailbreaks, unlocks and fixes for the apps he developed.

Before he closed things out he posted two entries that show his disappointment in the scene and his disgust with the people that demand more and more from him without appreciation or even common courtesy.

One of the first to pop up was a post titled “meh” where he talks about the upcoming Limera1n jailbreak. In it he states clearly not to ask about release dates, yet people still do without any regard or respect.

Many of these posts are insulting and childish in the extreme; the sort of thing that gets you banned from most forums and sites. Yet Geohot has taken this abuse for years. So in what is a move to alleviate the pressure of the trolls and get some pease and quiet, Geohot posted this shortly before closing things down

” Sorry, this post was probably a bad idea. Next time I won’t say anything. I miss when this blog was actually about technical things (I’ve been reacting too much to the feedback, which led it to the place it’s in now). I didn’t fully realize most of the current scene don’t care unless they are getting something. Now I do. It’s late tonight, I’ll think about what to do about this in the morning.
The real reason behind no release isn’t technical. It’s just that it will never stop, after blackra1n, people demand unlock, after blacksn0w, people demand untethered. I miss the days when jailbreaking and unlocking were difficult, it attracted a much higher caliber crowd.
Also, to the haters, the picture is quite obviously fake”

We are not sure if this means he will be gone forever or if he will simply retreat from the public eye and continue to work on the iPhone jailbreaks like he did before; through the various dev teams out in the wild. One thing we do know for sure, it is a sad day for those of us that respected and appreciated the work Geohot did.
