Candidate Recommendation (CR) is a stable branch of HTML5 intended only for fixes of any inadequacies, while version 5.1 is still open to new possibilities. HTML5.1 brings together several technologies that are already relatively well-received, including improvements related to quick search, better forms, including a summary of input and auto-complete, spell checking, better access to images and more powerful iframes.

With the CR release of HTML5, the W3C holds on to their earlier presented plan in which the final version of the HTML5 standards should be accepted by 2014. Before accepting, another release called "last call final" follows in the third quarter of the 2014, and the final, or "recommended" edition of the standard is expected in the fourth quarter of the 2014.

When we first hear Apple talk about HTML5 is was all about how it would benefit advertisers with more robust and engaging ads… We are not sure that a new web standard designed to give better ads is what we really want or need right now…]
