Microsoft serious about pirated Halo 4

Halo 4 will be released worldwide on November 6, 2012 but a pirated version of the game has already leaked to the web and can be found on popular torrent sites. We are not surprised that Halo 4 has already been pirated as this is one of Microsoft’s most popular games especially if you consider the multiplayer side. Users are eager to try it and they will, in most cases download the pirated version, at least to try it. This really pissed Microsoft off; they decided to permanently ban all Xbox Live users that are caught playing a pirated version of the game while their console is connected to the Internet.

This version of the game works only on moded Xbox 360s of course (which Microsoft is working on banning anyway. It is still unclear if Microsoft ban only gamertags or consoles completely. I think they will go with just a gamertags ban, because if you ban the whole console, why would that user want to buy any other original game if he won’t be able to play it on his Xbox Live account or play any sort of online multiplayer game. If they decide to ban the gamertags users will be able to create a new gamertag and still play the pirated game without having to worry if they will get banned, because what is there to lose, it is just one gamertag you don’t even care about.

Apparently Microsoft has launched an investigation to find out who leaked the game to the internet, but if you consider that it could be good for them since some users who play the pirated game use it to see if it is fun and want to play multiplayer later. Many of these people might end up buying solely because of that. Not to mention that literally every game leaks where at least a single player mode is available. My advice is to wait for the game to be officially launched so you can avoid all these troubles, yes you will have to wait few more weeks, but Halo is one of the most popular FPS games there is and it's probably worth waiting for.

[Ed – Microsoft has been systematically banning modded consoles as they discover them. Many people will actually run two consoles; one modded to use pirated single player games that is not connected to the internet and a second that is clean for use with games they like to play online with others. We have a feeling that anyone using a pirated copy of Halo 4 while connected to Xbox live will end up with a banned console and account; that appears to be what Microsoft is going for.]
