The company is currently considering a list of candidates for the CEO, sources say, and the choice is reportedly already narrowed down to a smaller number of candidates. Members of the CEO selection committee have already talked with Stephen Elop from (former) Nokia, Alan Mulally of Ford, and John Donahoe of eBay who reportedly turned down the offer. As potential candidates Paul Maritz from Pivotala and Tony Bates from Microsoft were also mentioned.

Period to select a new CEO will depend on negotiations over contract terms, and in the case of candidates outside of Microsoft, about time which could take for them to departure from the company.
