The Combination of the Corrtex-A15 with a Mali-T604 quad core GPU is sure to bring power to the table. Samsung goes so far as to compare the Exynos 5 Dual to desktop processors and announces 2x performance of the Exynos 4 Dual. It's individual cores are 1.5-2.5 times stronger compared to Cortex-A9 used in NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset, although there are four cores in Tegra 3.
Samsung confirms that Exynos will have smaller power consumption than 45nm chips with the adition of specific power saving programs for power hungry displays. So far there is no information on which devices these processors will be used in, but it will probably be announced soon. We can presume that they plan going to Windows tablets or Windows Phone platform since Mali-T604 have Directx 11 API support.
[Ed – The claims of 2.5 times the performance of Tegra 3 are pretty bold, but could be close to the mark as the Tgera 3 still uses the 45nm Cortex A9 CPU inside. Although we can make the assumption that nVidia is working on a 32nm version of Tegra for release in late 2013 we simply have not gotten any firm information from them. nVidia still has something of an advantage over Samsung with their close relationship to Microsoft. We have already heard one official announcement of a company switching to Tegra for their Windows RT devices and would not be surprised to see more follow suit if the current driver issues with many SoCs are not fixed.
We also think that with the war between Samsung and Apple right now they (Samsung) might opt for a new Android based Phone or Tablet simply to throw in Apple’s face. Either way if the paper claims can hold up in the real world it will be an interesting new piece of hardware.]
